Street-smart pop-soul singer-songwriter MoZella
will hit the road this summer as a special guest of her best-selling Warner
Bros. Records labelmate Daniel Powter. The twelve-date tour, which launches
July 17th in Philadelphia and culminates August 4th and 5th in Los Angeles,
will stop at theaters across the country, giving audiences a chance to hear
songs from the 24-year-old Detroit native's upcoming debut album, "I Will,"
which will be released by Maverick Records on September 19th.
Following the shows with Powter, MoZella, who has previously opened for
Lifehouse and Dave Matthews Band, will embark on "Uncorked & Unplugged," a
nationwide tour in which MoZella joins recording artists Sierra Swan and
Elan to partner with three innovative California wineries -- Solaris, Moon
Mountain Vineyards, and Dynamite Vineyards -- for an unconventional blend
of wine-tasting and live concerts. Each venue will offer an intimate
setting for fans to discover new music and new wines. MoZella, t...
Tom Petty has signed an exclusive recording
contract with Rick Rubin's American Recordings. The agreement keeps Petty
within the Warner Bros. Records family -- his last four albums were on the
Warner Bros. label, including 1994's multi-Platinum, Grammy-winning,
Rubin-produced "Wildflowers" -- and Rubin recently brought his American
Recordings label back to Burbank.
"Having Tom on American is a dream come true for me," commented Rubin. "Tom
is the consummate craftsman when it comes to recording, and has written
great songs consistently for thirty years." Rubin is excited to be
expanding upon the working relationship he has with Petty & the
Heartbreakers, who, in various combinations, have worked with the producer
on numerous projects. "Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers is the quintessential
American rock band," Rubin added, "and being a great rock and roll band has
become a lost art."
"We are delighted that Tom has chosen to continue his relationship with
Warner Bros. Recor...
Kelly Willis, named by NPR as "alternative
country's golden goddess," returns after five years with the
much-anticipated "Translated From Love." The album is the follow-up to the
acclaimed "Easy" (2002), of which Rolling Stone said, "Kelly Willis' sweet,
burnished voice practically spells heartache... Willis drapes her yearning
voice over the tough but funny lyrics..." Rykodisc will release the new
album on June 26.
Produced by long-time collaborator Chuck Prophet, "Translated From Love" is
Willis' most adventurous album to date. Prophet says of Willis, "She's one
of those singers who can make a track come alive. She's got that kind of
charisma."
The album's 12 tracks are comprised of originals, covers and
collaborations. Willis co-wrote the six original songs including the
Willis/Prophet tunes "Sweet Little One" and "Losing You," which feature the
Tosca String Quartet and Greg Leisz on the twelve-string guitar and pedal
steel. Appearing on the record are Willis' husband and hi...

A guitar is a musical instrument characterized by its visually dominant body and neck. Guitar strings are strung parallel to the neck, whose surface is covered by the fingerboard (fretboard). By depressing a string against the fingerboard, the effective length of a string can be altered, which in turn changes the frequency at which the string will vibrate when plucked. Guitarists typically use one hand to pluck the strings and the other to depress the strings against the fingerboard. The strings may be plucked using either fingers or a plectrum (guitar pick), thus creating the sound of notes or chords. The strings of a guitar produce little sound by themselves. Instead, their vibration must be amplified to audibly useful levels. In general, this amplication is achieved either mechanically or electronically, with the result being that there are two main categories of guitar: acoustic (mechanical amplification) and electric (electronic amplification).
